State Resources

Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT)

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Michigan's nearly 10,000-mile state highway system, which includes all M-, I-, and US-routes. MDOT also oversees various modes of transportation, including public transit, rail, aviation, and non-motorized pathways, aiming to provide safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the state.

MDOT Five-Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)

The annual Five-Year Transportation Program (5YTP) is intended to present MDOT's planned investments across all modes as early in the planning process as possible to support successful program delivery, encourage local coordination, and guarantee opportunities for meaningful public engagement.

The 5YTP is updated annually with the intent to present the public with the opportunity to provide input on progress toward creating and maintaining an equitable, resilient, and sustainable transportation system, as well as the challenges faced in meeting those objectives.

MDOT State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP)

Michigan's State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) provides information regarding the programs and projects to which state and local transportation agencies have committed over the next four years and verifies that new resources available for transportation are sufficient to finance those improvements.

Mi Drive

Mi Drive is MDOT's real-time traffic and construction information website, providing users with access to traffic cameras, current speeds, incident reports, and construction updates across Michigan. The interactive map helps motorists plan their routes by offering up-to-date information on road conditions and closures.

MDOT GIS Open Data Portal

MDOT's GIS Open Data Portal enables users to browse, search, preview, and download a variety of geospatial datasets related to Michigan's transportation infrastructure. The portal supports informed decision-making by providing access to data on roads, bridges, traffic volumes, and more, facilitating analysis and planning for transportation projects.

Michigan Traffic Crash Facts

The Michigan Traffic Crash Facts (MTCF) website is the state's official source for comprehensive traffic crash data. Developed by the University of Michigan in collaboration with the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning and the U.S. Department of Transportation, MTCF offers interactive tools and downloadable reports to support data-driven decision-making in transportation safety.
